Have you seen photos of Lake Bled and wondered if buying Bled real estate will be worth it? If yes, then, you are in for a real treat. Describing the place as gorgeous is an understatement. Lake Bled is a lovely pristine mountain lake nestled at the foot of the Julian Alps located in northwestern Slovenia.
Bled Island is the centerpiece of this pretty lake that serves as the most iconic view of the country. The moment you see it, you know it is Slovenia without a doubt.
The small island with the ancient church peeking out of the turquoise water is the crowning jewel not only of Lake Bled but even Slovenia itself in many ways. It is the only natural island in the country and folklore even claims that fairies made it. And whether it is true or not, the magical look and feel of the place make it more than believable.
As expected, any visit to Lake Bled will never be complete if you don’t visit the island. Don’t worry because you are not the first one to do so. Ever since the Middle Ages, people have been going on pilgrimages to this island, a true testament to the importance of the place.
Whether you are planning to buy Bled real estate for a vacation home or plan to live in the area for good, a trip to this island is definitely a must!

The 99 Steps
The 99 steps that lead up to the church will greet you if you approach the island from the southern tip.
These steps can be traced back to the 17th century. According to tradition, the groom should carry his bride up to these stone steps if they plan to marry in the church.
The Church of the Assumption
The Church of the Assumption is no doubt the main attraction of Bled Island. The island itself bears a serious history. Even before the present church was built on its spot, a temple in honor of the pagan goddess of love Živa stood there.
However, after converting to Christianity in 745, a church to commemorate the birth of the Virgin Mary replaced the pagan temple. It was in 1465 when the bell tower at 170ft was added and it continues to stand to this day. The church has obviously gone through numerous renovations through the centuries but its present-day baroque look dates as far back as the 17th century.
There was a minimal entrance fee to the bell tower and church, but every penny is worth it because great views await you when you climb the tower. There are several lovely frescoes inside the church dating back to 1465. You can even ring the wishing bell if you want. Legend states that ringing the bell thrice and believing in God will make your wish come true.
The Provost’s House
The building once served as the home to pilgrims and priests on the island in the past. Today, the building houses a gift shop that offers modern and traditional Slovenian crafts. There are many lovely items to find here that make it worth a look.
Finding the perfect Bled real estate will make you experience a real-life fairy tale right on your doorstep!
